Actor Agis Emmanuel kicked off an ultramarathon from Athens to Glasgow on Wednesday to help raise awareness of climate change among the world’s population.
Recent wildfires of unprecedented intensity and magnitude have shown the ugly face of climate change. In these difficult times for Greece and our entire planet, there was a person who decided to make his own unique contribution. Actor, marathon runner and activist Agis Emmanuel took to the 2,421 km ultramarathon to help raise awareness of climate change and its devastating impacts.
Starting on Wednesday 11 August, Emmanuel plans to reach the Scottish city of Glasgow by November 1, where the UN Climate Conference will kick off on that day. The most significant environmental conference since the historic Paris Conference will bring together leaders from nations who will shape the future of the planet. In addition, thousands of institutions, organizations and citizens from all over the world will also be there, demanding a better future for all.
Starting his journey from the Pnyx Hill in the center of Athens, Emmanuel will run through 60 cities, including cities in Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
“The support of the whole world, wherever I go, will give life and strength to this initiative so that it can have a global impact,” he said.
