ΠΟΕΔΗΝ on the attack by gypsies on an ambulance in Messolongi: "They constantly provoke our employees."

PDEDIN President Michalis Giannakos condemned the incident in a statement gypsies attacked to the ambulance team at the Mesolonghi General Hospital.

According to him, gypsies constantly provoke incidents in medical institutions without caring about the consequences.

“A few meters from the hospital in Mesolongi there is a gypsy camp. Every three days, the gypsies bring a patient to the hospital, usually with an alcohol or drug addiction, and in the emergency room, for no reason, they beat up any employee who appears in front of them, demanding priority service,” said in a published statement.

The PDEDIN president believes that in hospitals where violence often occurs, there should always be police patrolling the surrounding streets and acting as a deterrent, while stressing that in such cases, tightening the law does not help.

“More than 50% of cases of beatings of colleagues in medical institutions occur among Roma. How is this problem solved? Constant police patrols near hospitals, medical centers and other medical institutions. Strong security of hospitals by security guards hired by the hospitals themselves. Currently, security does not meet standards due to lack of funds,” he emphasizes.

“Continuous intervention and dialogue with Roma community leaders to stop them from attacking hospital workers and disrupting their work. There is no need for a patient to be accompanied by fifty people and beat up everyone they come across.”

In conclusion, the president POEΕΔΗΝ notes that a similar incident involving a much more brutal beating and injury to a rescuer occurred recently at a hospital in Corinth.

“The gypsies are constantly beating up the staff, causing chaos in the emergency room, they took out Kalashnikov assault rifles, threatening the medical workers, and… nothing. What else do we have to go through? It is worth noting that the rescuers, despite the confusion, despite the beatings, continued their work. Just like their colleagues in the emergency room at the hospital in Mesolonghi. “Well done, what else can I say?” concluded Giannakos.

What else can I add to what the president of the Greek medical union said… Perhaps to the country's political leadership worth thinking about about the situation with Roma in GreeceAfter all, the situation when the government has taken away the right to violence from one part of the population, while granting indulgence to another part of society, is a dangerous precedent.
