The Plenary Court of Thessaloniki sentenced a 55-year-old man who killed a stray dog with an air rifle to 2 years of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 euros.
The unfortunate animal survived the shot, but was found dead two days later due to its wounds. The case unfolded in October 2019 in a rural area west of Thessaloniki. The man was charged after an anonymous complaint based on testimony from a child who was playing in the neighborhood and allegedly saw the dog leaving his house injured.
The accused was not present in court and was represented by a proxy, through whom he denied the act accused of him. The imposed punishment was deferred for 3 years.
