The United States has information that North Korea handed over a thousand containers with “military equipment” to Russia, hoping to receive heavy weapons, including aircraft, in exchange.
About it writes “European Truth”, referring to correspondents present at the closed White House briefing. Journalists received information from White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby. Journalist Laura Rosen quotes Kirby:
“We have information that North Korea supplied Russia with weapons for use in Ukraine. The DPRK provided Russia with more than 1,000 containers of military equipment and ammunition. Today we are publishing a graph depicting the movement of containers.”
Voice of America correspondent Patsi Widakuswara published a similar message, claiming that the transfer took place “in recent weeks.” The Asian Nikkei notes, citing information from Kirby, that in exchange the DPRK expects to receive surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles and even combat aircraft.
Reuters writes that the White House has published schedules for North Korea’s arms deliveries to Russia. According to the US, the deliveries took place between September 7 and October 1.
Earlier, a US non-governmental think tank published satellite images showing a sharp increase in freight traffic between North Korea and Russia after the meeting between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin in September.
