A large-scale fire that broke out at noon on Sunday completely destroyed the landmark of Alexandroupolis – the French railway station.
Built by a French company in the early 1870s, the complex of mostly wooden buildings, including a former marshalling center and train headquarters office, was an integral part of the history of the capital of Evros.
A large group of firefighters in four engines fought the fire, but the historic building could not be saved. The cause of the fire has not yet been established, writes CNN Greece.
