For the second time in China, mouse heads have been found in food packages. The first similar incident occurred quite recently, in the same month.
A nasty “attachment” was found in a lunchbox in the canteen of a hospital(!) of traditional Chinese medicine in Xushan County in China, state media reported, “exquisitely” surrounded, as seen in videoa local delicacy – duck with brandy.
According to the China Daily, the hospital explained that the catering sector of its canteen had been outsourced to an outside partner through a government tender and that it had not experienced such a problem in the past. Asked by Reuters, a hospital employee who asked not to be named told the news agency to refer to “official reports” without going into detail.
On June 1, a student at Jiangxi Industrial Polytechnic Institute in the provincial capital of Nanchang posted a video showing “an object with teeth, eyes and a nose” in his bowl of rice offered at the college cafeteria, South China Morning Post reported.
College representatives were unavailable for comment, and online users are expressing concern about food quality. One of them wrote:
“From now on, cafes will have to install security cameras and play back the videos they record in the dining area.”
Although food safety in China has improved in recent times, inspections by market regulators were more likely to reveal problems in the past year. In 2022, the State Administration for Market Regulation reported that 518,600 cases of food safety violations were investigated and prosecuted across the country, notes CNN Greece.
