The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Defense welcomed the decision of the European Commission to double the RescEU firefighting aircraft fleet for this year’s fire season, noting that this decision is an official proposal from Greece and an important step to protect the country from fires.
European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic announcedthat the RescEU fire aviation fleet for 2023 doubles to 24 aircraft and four helicopters.
Greece contributed the most with four aircraft (2 medium type and 2 light type Air Tractor) and one helicopter.
Recall that in the summer to Greece will be sent 180 firefighters from 5 countries EU to help fight fires that burn thousands of hectares of land, endangering the lives of people and animals.
