An unknown man threw a suspicious package at the gates of the Russian Embassy in Athens. This was announced on April 24 by the Greek state television channel ERT-1.
According to the channel, an unknown elderly man tried to enter the territory of the Russian Embassy in the Athenian Psychiko district in order to leave a package. After they didn’t let him in, he threw the envelope towards the outer gate and tried to get into a taxi, but the law enforcement officers detained him.
It is noted that an explosive ordnance disposal team was called to the scene. According to the latest data, the sappers who examined the parcel did not find anything suspicious in it. However, two men were detained.
Referring to police sources, the Skai TV channel reported that earlier a man had tried to deliver a parcel to the embassy in a taxi, but the embassy staff refused to accept it.
RIA News quotes the statement of the Embassy of the Russian Federation: “Today, a suspicious package was thrown onto the territory of the embassy. The police detained the person who threw the package. The police took away the package. There was no dangerous content in it. The alarm was lifted.”
