Seismology professor Gerasimos Papadopoulos recommends “great caution” regarding aftershocks in Evia following Wednesday’s magnitude 4.2 quake, as he believes the activation of a new source in Evia could produce a major quake:
“Earthquake at 22.03 on January 4 with a magnitude of 4.3 (EMSC), in the Vlachia region in central Evia, was felt in Attica. In my previous message, I noted that here we have the activation of a new fault. Much attention is on Evia.”

An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 and several smaller ones occurred at dawn near Vlachia in the northeast of Messapia (Psakhna). In Psakhna, the aftershock sequence continues “. According to the revised decision of the Institute of Geodynamics, the epicenter is located 6 kilometers west/northwest of Limnion, about 30 kilometers north of Chalkis and appears to be further north than the magnitude 4.9 Psachna earthquake on December 28, 2022 of the year.
