Heraklion: pistachio blocked the lung of a 4-year-old baby from Santorini

A four-year-old girl is intubated in the intensive care unit of Heraklion University Hospital. The cause of severe shortness of breath in the child was a pistachio in the right lung.

The girl was intubated under the influence of sedatives and was taken to Heraklion University Hospital from Santorini on Tuesday. Her condition was so critical that doctors intubated her upon arrival at the airport.

When examining a girl discovered 1.5 peanuts in the right lung, causing breathing problems. After the decision was made to transport the child to Crete, air transportation was organized by ΕΚΑΒ aircraft. After intubation, the little patient was transferred to PAΑΓΝΗ. The head of the Ministry of Health of Crete, Nektarios Papavasileou, says:

“The child was in a bad condition when he arrived, but the doctors helped him very quickly, and now we hope that everything will be fine.”

According to Giorgos Halkiadakis, head of the PAΑΓΝΗ, the child had very low oxygen saturation. Doctors proceeded to endoscopically remove the peanut that was blocking his right lung. The girl was then taken to the pediatric intensive care unit. According to Halkiadakis, while her parents are next to her, her health has improved.

However, on Thursday evening, the condition of a four-year-old girl worsenedshe developed pulmonary insufficiency, and doctors regard the child’s condition as critical.
