Belarus has decided to expel from the country all the diplomatic personnel of the Latvian embassy, headed by the ambassador, according to Vladimir Makei, the republic’s foreign minister.
For the Latvian ambassador Einars Semanis, the departure period from the country is 24 hours, for the rest of the staff – 48 hours. The reason was the incident in Riga, when the national flag of Belarus was replaced with the opposition flag in the framework of the World Ice Hockey Championship, Sputnik Belarus reports. The mayor of Riga explained the decision by the actions of Minsk, which, in his opinion, look too much like terrorism.
An identical decision has already been taken by Latvia, sending in response the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus and all diplomatic workers.
