More than 200 non-governmental organizations are calling on world leaders gathered today in New York during the UN General Assembly to “act to end global hunger.”
“Organizations from 75 countries have signed an open letter expressing their outrage at the rise in the number of people suffering (and dying) from hunger, and providing recommendations on how to cope with the crisis. 345 million people in the world suffer from acute hunger, a number that exceeds doubled compared to 2019,” 238 organizations emphasize in their statement.
This open letter was made public on the occasion of the start of today’s annual UN General Assemblywhich is attended by a large number of political leaders, as well as representatives of civil society.
“It is unacceptable that with all these agricultural ‘high’ technologies (…) today, in the 21st century, we are still talking about hunger,” said Mohana Ahmed Ali Eljabali of the Yemen Family Care Association, who also signed this is an open letter. “It’s not just about a country or a continent, and there’s always only one reason for hunger. This is the injustice of all mankind,” he stressed.
