Greece suspends its participation in the PABSEC for six months

Greece will not participate in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation in Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine.

As Parliament Speaker Kostas Tasoulas announced, the Greek parliamentary delegation to the PABSEC will not participate during the current six months in its 59th plenary session in Moscow, which will be held on June 6-9, 2022.

This is the first time that the Greek parliamentary delegation, in protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, will not participate in the regular work and even in the plenary session. The decision to “abstain” was made due to the fact that the Russian Federation, hosting the delegation, unprovokedly attacked Ukraine in violation of all norms of international law, causing enormous human and material damage.

Since Greece’s accession to the PABSEC in June 1995, its participation in the regular work of the Assembly has been uninterrupted and consistent with the objectives set by the rules of procedure: ensuring understanding and acceptance of the ideals of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation; providing a legal basis for economic, commercial, social, cultural and political cooperation between member countries; assisting national parliaments in strengthening parliamentary democracy, writes cnn.gr.
