It is possible that today experts will propose a significant easing of the restrictions imposed earlier due to the pandemic.
An expert meeting will be held today, which is expected to make recommendations for the government to lift some and ease others of the coronavirus restrictions. Perhaps February, which was the beginning of the pandemic two years ago, will also be the “beginning of its end” in Greece.
The government has already signaled to experts that it would like to allow standing in entertainment venues, conferences, school trips, more fans in stadiums. If experts agree to ease the restrictions, the new rules will come into effect as early as Monday, February 21.
The tourism industry is looking forward to relaxing – after the ban on mass excursions, conferences and school trips will be the first step towards its restoration, even before the official opening of the 2022 tourist season.
The next measure that experts intend to consider is the abolition of masks on the street. However, this issue will not be discussed today. Many are worried about the fate of carnivals. This is still being discussed, although experts treat such mass events with apprehension and have already made it clear that it is hardly appropriate now to organize crowded processions that increase the risk of infection with the coronavirus in general and the omicron strain in particular. Perhaps some mini-carnivals will be allowed, but only for the vaccinated.
The government, referring to the opinion of scientists, emphasizes: all restrictions that exist for the unvaccinated will remain in full. Citizens who do not want to be vaccinated demonstrate by such an attitude their asociality and irresponsibility towards vaccinated fellow citizens, reports newsbeast.gr.
The Greek government is moving towards phasing out the few remaining measures, outlining deadline in March. Then, according to experts, after assessing the current course of the pandemic, all restrictive measures will probably be lifted, except for the use of a mask, which will remain with us for a long time.
