Skopelos port authorities said the body found on the island’s beach on Tuesday likely belonged to a monk who went missing last month.
On December 20, a 58-year-old monk from Mount Athos went to fish in the sea near the monastery peninsula. His boat was found empty and towed to Daphne, the harbor of Mount Athos.
It is expected that the body will be transferred to the city of Larissa for postmortem examination.
