Amazon has entered into an ELTA contract for the delivery of goods

Hellenic Post (ELTA) has partnered with American e-commerce giant Amazon. The Greek company took over the distribution of Amazon products throughout Greece.

The agreement concerns the so-called last mile delivery, that is, part of the transportation from airports, car stations or ports to the customer.

Sources of MoneyReview note that “ELTA’s transformation plan has already begun to bear fruit, as their partnership with global giant Amazon in delivering packages to Greece with full order tracking is a development that would not have been possible in a few months.” Sources the market adds that the full geographic coverage that only the Hellenic Post Group can offer Amazon and its customers played a decisive role in the selection.

Until recently, Amazon used other courier companies for these deliveries, often multinationals, but they did not cover the entire country. However, the rapid growth of e-commerce, fueled by the pandemic and restrictions in Greece, has expanded Amazon’s customer base across the country, even in remote locations, making such collaboration necessary.

Amazon actions in Greece

The ELTA agreement is one of many steps Amazon has taken over the past year and a half in Greece. The company has made no secret of its plans to make our country the headquarters of Amazon’s digital services hub in the broader region of Southeast Europe. As a reminder, in January he announced the official opening of the office. Amazon Web Services in Athens after a year of procedures and actions that included the opening of the Amazon Cloud Front Edge center in January 2020 and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Government focusing on the areas of digital governance, digital skills, digital infrastructure and innovation.

The investment plan was evaluated and approved by Jeff Bezos himself, government sources said in January, recalling that Amazon typically “invests in successive phases, carefully evaluating the results of each step.” Cooperation with ELTA is part of this framework. In addition to the head of cloud services Amazon Web Services for Central and Eastern Europe Przhemek Schuder in mid-February, speaking at MoneyReview, he confirmed that the American group plans to further expand its cloud services.

Hellenic Post Deputy CEO and Intensive Consultant Vasilis Balurdos, in a recent interview with K, explained that 49 million euros will be allocated from the Recovery Fund for the organization’s overall digital transformation package. An important part of them concerns the development of infrastructure for automatic sorting and sorting of parcels in distribution centers to better serve e-commerce, reduce management time and reduce costs. Which will soon expand ELTA’s management capabilities to over 100,000 items per day, including of course Amazon.
