Chinese and American scientists planned to create unique coronaviruses

Even before the pandemic broke out in the world, the plans of an international group of scientists from the United States and China were to create new coronaviruses.

Scientists intended to use for this a combination of fragments of genomes of similar strains. Confirmation is the data from the grant application filed with the Office of Advanced Research Projects of the US Department of Defense.

The application, according to the publication, was filed in 2018 by an international consortium, which included the EcoHealth Alliance, scientists from the University of North Carolina (USA), employees of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (PRC), researchers from Duke-NUS Medical School (Singapore).

The reason for receiving the grant was the intention to create a completely new coronavirus, “with a new, incompatible gene sequence,” writes The Daily Telegraph.

Earlier, according to The Wall Street Journal, Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs, chairman of The Lancet’s COVID-19 commission, dismissed a group of scientists who were studying the origins of the coronavirus. The reason is the connection of its members with the EcoHealth Alliance (USA), which collaborated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. According to the publication, the organization used American funds to research coronaviruses in bats, which it did together with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, located in the city where the first outbreak of covid was recorded.

The journal’s commission intends to continue research into the origins of COVID-19. Experts in the field of biological safety will be involved in the work. A report on the results of the investigation will be published in the new year.
