The Greek government wants to impose restrictions on visitors to Santorini and Mykonos, popular cruise islands

According to Turprom, Greece plans to join Italy and Spain in the fight against cruise tourism by introducing restrictive measures.

They will be introduced for large tourist groups arriving on the popular Greek islands, tells GreekReporter. Local authorities are planning to take a similar step, since cruise tourists occupy the niche of bus tourists.

It is worth noting that cruise travelers do not actually bring additional income to the population, only increasing the load on the infrastructure. Large cruise ships can simultaneously land about six thousand people on the islands, while the population of Santorini and Mykonos does not exceed ten thousand.

Previously, Venice introduced new bans for tourists: from the beginning of May 2024, a mandatory fee of 5 euros will be introduced for those who come to the city for one day.
