Weather: it will be hot again in the next few days

In the next few days, another heat wave is expected in Greece, with thermometers reaching 40°C.

For the second day, residents of Greece breathe in the cool (at least in the morning and evening) air with relief. Under the pressure of the wind, the African dust also retreated. However Temperature levels will remain at seasonally high levels throughout the week across the country. In Attica, temperatures will reach 36°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, while a new heat wave is expected in the west of the country as thermometers will reach 40°C.

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafillias notes, that “the heat wave is a thing of the past, but June looks to be arriving with seasonally high temperatures (5-8 degrees above normal) and in fact we will have our first 40C midweek, this time in western Greece.” Mr Tsatrafillias claims that June this year will be one of the warmest months:

“Undoubtedly, June this year is developing as one of the hottest months. In terms of developments, the first estimate (not forecast) for the continuation of summer is that the following months will also be warmer than usual. According to the Copernicus service, the probability that temperatures will be above normal levels in July-August-September is more than 60%.”

In its turn The EMY is forecasting clear skies with partly cloudy skies today, Sunday, and warning of the possibility of flash showers during the midday hours across the country's north-eastern mountains.

The air temperature today will rise slightly and reach 34-36°C on the continent. In the island part of the country the temperature will be 31–32°C, locally in the Dodecanese and Crete 33-35°C. North wind, from 3 to 5 points, in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea in some places up to 6 points on the Beaufort scale.

In Attica on Sunday clear, with scattered clouds at times. Wind variable, from 2 to 4 on the Beaufort scale. Temperature from 21 to 35°C.
