No paper tickets: how to get to your destination by metro and buses

The introduction of a new fare payment system for public transport in the city was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras.

One of the most important reforms in the public transport sector should be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport by end of this yearwhich will facilitate and simplify access to metro lines and buses for all citizens.

This is system integration contactless transactionswhich will automatically allow you to enter the metro and buses without using a traditional ticket, but by simply touching your debit or credit card to the reader.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras, the “Tap N Pay” contactless transaction system on public transport will be completed by the end of the year, which will put an end to the queues that form at the ticket counters during peak hours. In fact, the dedicated contactless payment system is expected to limit the number of free riders.

Now bus passengers will be able to board the bus without a ticket and make a contactless transaction using a bank card or even a mobile phone, if it has the necessary NFC app.

At this point, we must note that the traditional ATH.ENA ticket and ATH.ENA card will not cease to exist and will cater to those who do not wish to disclose their bank details or are not familiar with contactless transaction processes.
