Bloody convenience store robbery

Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the perpetrator of a bloody attack on a mini market that took place in Chania on Saturday evening, June 15.

The attack on the retail outlet, located at the intersection of Mylonoyanni and Ephedrona Polemisto streets, in the center of Chania, occurred around 20:30 in the evening. Video released by Greek media showed the gunman and the convenience store owner struggling, both with bloody faces and hands, and a third man trying to restrain the attacker. At the same time, two shots are heard and the owner repeatedly shouts: “Put the gun down, someone will be killed.”

After a few seconds of struggle, the assailant is seen pushing and knocking down the store owner's son, then takes his helmet and walks without any haste to the motorcycle, where a possible accomplice is waiting, before leaving the scene together.

As the Syrian owner of the mini-market, who was injured in the attack, said on ERT camera, he personally does not know the perpetrator, and the incident occurred due to the fact that the person who entered asked for some goods and, having taken them, intended to leave without paying. The other two wounded are the sons of the convenience store owner, one of whom remains in the hospital after being shot in the leg.

“I have no disagreements with anyone. I lived in Chania for 23 years, raised my children and grandchildren here,” emphasized the Syrian, who expressed absolute confidence that the police and the judicial system will solve this case.
