The 70-year-old arrived in Matraki, one of the Diapontine islands, ten days ago and was last seen on Tuesday evening sitting in a local cafe with two female tourists. They, according to the president of the local community, Spyros Argyros, have already left the island.
The man's Greek-American friend, who hosted him at his home, reported him missing on Thursday. The missing man's personal belongings, clothing and passport were found in the house where he was staying, Argyros said. Police and fire crews were unable to reach the island to investigate due to strong winds.
