Princess Kako of Japan at the Acropolis Museum


Princess Kako of Japan visited Greece. Arriving in Athens, she met with officials. On Monday morning, 5/27, she was given a tour of the Acropolis Museum. There she was met by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and the General Director of the Acropolis Museum Nikos Stampolidis.

The princess showed particular interest in the Parthenon sculpture group, wanting to learn in detail how the statues were created. Her interest was drawn to the colors preserved on the surfaces of the Kores (“daughters of the Acropolis”), as well as the differences in the hairstyles and clothing of the caryatids.

At 12:00, Princess Kako was honored at the National Gallery by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, the Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou, in as part of the celebration of the Year of Culture and Tourism of Greece and Japan. The announcement was agreed upon by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in January 2023, during the Greek Prime Minister's official visit to Japan.
