Varoufakis files a lawsuit against Germany

Yanis Varoufakis, general secretary of the MEPA25 party and candidate for the European Parliament, is suing the German authorities in the German courts after he was banned from entering and politically active in Germany in April last year in connection with the organization of a conference on Palestine in Berlin.

According to a statement from MePA25, after discussions with MePA25 Germany and its legal team, Varoufakis is filing a claim against the German authorities and reserves the right to take legal action in the European courts for violation of fundamental rights and defamation. “There is no greater threat to the safety of the citizens of Germany and all of Europe than the loss of our fundamental rights.”the statement emphasizes.

The statement also notes that, despite the promise of the German authorities to provide a written response to three specific questions, this was not done, citing “national security reasons.”

“By invoking “national security” to justify their march towards totalitarianism and their full support of Israel’s “right” to continue the genocide of the Palestinians, the German authorities have effectively abolished both the rule of law in Germany and the most important principle EU – freedom of movement and political activity of European citizens”, – emphasized in the statement.

“The unprecedented decision of the German authorities last April to ban Yanis Varoufakis from entering the country and from any political activity was only the beginning. Outrageous violations of all principles of the rule of law have continued in Europe, which is sinking further into totalitarianism.

Having promised the lawyer of the secretary of MEPA25 to give a written answer to three reasonable questions (Which body issued the ban? When? On what basis?), the German authorities finally replied that … they would not answer, citing reasons of “national security” and that any response would undermine “the proper performance of the duties of the federal police and other security agencies involved in this matter.”

In other words, mitsotacism has spread to the supposedly prosperous countries of the European north, whose authorities are now not only violating fundamental freedoms, but also, following the path paved by Mr. Mitsotakis, writing on the back of their shoes the right of a citizen to know why he is accused, why he is being watched , why he is prohibited from engaging in political activities and moving freely within the territory of the European Union.

In the face of this clear violation of German and European law and after consultation with MePA25 Germany and its legal team in Germany, Yanis Varoufakis is filing a claim against the German authorities in the German courts and reserves the right to apply to the European courts for violation of fundamental rights and defamation.

Let us recall that Yanis Varoufakis was scheduled to speak on April 12 at the Palestine Conference, an event organized by MePA25 Germany, Jewish Voice for Peace and other organizations to engage in dialogue on what needs to be done to ensure equal political rights for all between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Unable to accept the fact that MEPA25 organized a conference on Palestine jointly with Jewish comrades, which makes accusations of anti-Semitism laughable, the German authorities carried out a brutal suppression of the conference and a famous ban on the entry of Yanis Varoufakis.

Citing “national security” to justify its descent into totalitarianism and fully supporting “right” Israel to continue unhindered the genocide of Palestinians, the German authorities, in fact, abolished both the rule of law in Germany and the most important principle of the EU – freedom of movement and political activity of European citizens in any corner of the European Union.
