Stress: the most stressful time of the day

The morning rush to work can dramatically increase stress. For many, stress reaches the red level at 8.15am, according to a new OnePoll survey of 2,000 UK adults.

More than half of those surveyed report feeling groggy after getting out of bed. Some of the most common problems they face are getting kids ready for school, finding lost house keys, and deciding what to wear. How to make your morning less stressful:

1. Start preparing in the evening. Prioritize your tasks and write down your goals for the next day. This will greatly help you get ahead in the morning as you will have a clear plan and focused attention.

2. Don't procrastinate. Don't press the snooze button on your alarm clock! Jumping out of bed and leaving sleep cycles can be so abrupt that it can cause severe shock not only to the nervous system, but also to the entire body. According to experts at Sleep Clinic Services, your brain needs about 4 hours of recovery every time you hit the snooze button. Overall, procrastination and excuses for avoiding responsibility can lead to a build-up of unfinished tasks, ultimately leading to feelings of overwhelm, stress, and ultimately a chaotic week.

3. Give yourself a reason to get up. What do you honestly expect from breakfast? What do you like that you don't have time for during the day? Think about it and start there. Maybe you just want to give yourself some time before everyone else in the house wakes up or before the phones start ringing. Waking up just 30 minutes earlier can give you the peace of mind you need to face the day with patience and much less stress.

4. Open the curtains. Are you stressed and having anxious thoughts? Morning sunlight can improve your mood and relieve stress. In particular, it activates the release of serotonin, the “happiness hormone”. Besides Sunlight can boost energy levels and productivity. If you find it difficult to concentrate, go out into the sun for a while (go out onto the balcony, open the window) and try again after returning to the room. You'll probably notice a difference.

5. Take a refreshing shower. A morning shower is like coffee: it activates the brain, awakens the muscles and revitalizes the senses. According to experts at the Cleveland Clinic, leaving yesterday behind and feeling clean and refreshed will give you peace of mind and confidence to conquer the day ahead.
