Birth benefit increases. Find out who and for how long

After the entry into force of articles 29-32 of Law No. 5092/2024 “Conditions for the use of state property in coastal areas and other provisions” the amount of child birth benefit increased and changed to determine the amount of its allocation.

When determining the amount of benefit, you now havereads the number of dependent children in the family after the birth of the child, and the amount is paid as follows:

1. €2,400 for the first dependent child in order of birth,
2. €2,700 for a second dependent child in order of birth,
3. €3,000 for a third dependent child in order of birth;
4. €3,500 for the fourth and each subsequent dependent child in order of birth.

After the application is approved, the child birth benefit is paid in the following order:

1. two equal installments of 1,200 euros for the first dependent child, in order of birth,
2. two equal installments of 1,350 euros for the second dependent child, in order of birth,
3. two equal payments of €1,500 each for a third dependent child in order of birth;
4. two equal payments of €1,750 for the fourth and each subsequent dependent child in order of birth.

Retroactive increase in child birth benefit before the entry into force of this law, it is paid to persons who received the right to benefit upon the birth of a child, starting from January 1, 2023, that is, to those persons whose children were born starting from January 1, 2023 and whose application was approved.

The additional amount arising after the increase in the childbirth benefit is paid to recipients without the need to submit a new application or take any other action as follows:

1. beneficiaries who received the full amount of the benefit at the birth of a child will receive an additional amount in a lump sum in April 2024,
2. Beneficiaries whose application has been approved but not yet paid in both installments will be paid an additional amount when the second installment is paid.

When is child birth benefit paid?

On the last working day of April, benefits will be paid to beneficiaries. It means that benefits for the birth of a child will be credited to recipients’ accounts on April 30, Good Tuesday.

Retroactive payment will be paid on the same day childbirth benefit for those mothers who gave birth in 2023 and have already received 2,000 euros.
