Evia earthquake of magnitude 4.5 was felt in Attica

On Sunday, April 13, early in the morning, at 05:23, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Evia.

By data Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the epicenter of the earthquake was two kilometers south/southeast of Vasiliki Istia (Βασιλικών Ιστιαίας). The depth of the source was 18.7 km. The inhabitants of Attica also felt seismic vibrations. The consequences of the tremors have not been reported.

Let us remind you that earthquake data coming from the Athens Geodynamic Institute or the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute are solutions obtained using an automatic computer system, without the participation of a seismologist. They are constantly updated as new data becomes available.

Professor of Geology and Disaster Management Efthimios Lekkas:

“The earthquake was strong, but it did not cause any damage, only a few very small cracks, the mayors of Limni and Edipsos were contacted, there are no major problems. The earthquake gave the impression that it was stronger, but this was because most of the inhabitants were sleeping at that time and felt it more strongly. This earthquake did not go unnoticed by us, we are monitoring it as this area has seen stronger earthquakes and is a sensitive area. We are doing everything for prevention.”
