Doctors performed a complex operation – they amputated the legs of a student who had serious complications after meningitis.
A 20-year-old girl developed a septic embolism that led to gangrene in both legs. The student was transferred about 20 days ago from the University Hospital of Patras, where she was treated, to the CAT Hospital, writes tempo24.
Doctors decided to amputate both legs below the knee to prevent the spread of infection. According to doctors, the patient’s health condition is currently stable.
Let us remind you that the student fainted on the evening of Wednesday, February 21, while she was within the walls of a higher educational institution. Fellow students called an ambulance, which took the girl to the university hospital, where she was immediately intubated, as her health condition was rapidly deteriorating.
When the patient managed to escape danger, she was transferred to the Rio hospital clinic. However, after suffering from meningitis, she developed complications – problems with her legs, as a result of which the attending doctors considered it necessary to amputate.
