Menidi: investigation into fatal accident involving Yiannis Xanthopoulos continues

The singer's lawyer, Mr. Balaktaris, explained at what stage the preliminary investigation is at. “Efforts are being made to collect evidence, a process that could take months,” he explained.

“Let’s help prove what exactly happened,” the human rights activist emphasized, and when asked why Yiannis Xanthopoulos still has not testified, a month after the accident, Mr. Balaktaris noted: “in order to testify, you must have materials things that don't exist yet.”

The full picture of the incident is still being studied by traffic police investigators, but at the moment it is known that the car driven by Yiannis Xanthopoulos, a popular Greek singer of Pontic origin, was driving at high speed and crashed into another car., in which there were 2 people. According to the police, 1 died on the spot, the second was taken to the hospital.

The singer has not yet testified about the accident, and is expected to shed light on the cause of the fatal accident. He reportedly immediately got out of the car when the collision occurred to help the occupants of the other vehicle. Speaking on Alpha several hours after the accident, a visibly shaken Yiannis Xanthopoulos said he did not lose control of the car, while documentary footage showed a third car violating a STOP sign.
