Ships and ferries across Greece will remain in port on Wednesday 17 April following the Panhellenic Seafarers' Federation's decision to join a 24-hour nationwide strike called by the Hellenic Workers' Confederation (ADEDY).
The main demands of the strike are action on combating inflation and ensuring conditions for a decent standard of living.
“Greek seafarers, due to the nature of the maritime profession, are among the first to face the consequences of high prices, because they are the only ones who work, at best, five or six months a year to feed themselves and their families throughout the year,” – the Federation of Sailors said in a statement. The Federation also emphasized that seafarers receive Very low unemployment benefits.
