As a result of a Russian missile attack on March 22, one of the largest thermal power plants in the Kharkov region, Zmievskaya Thermal Power Plant, was completely destroyed. A statement from the state energy generating company Centrenergo on March 29 said:

“All units were destroyed, auxiliary equipment was damaged. The degree of destruction varies, from complete to significant. Now the enterprise is clearing the rubble and there is no access to most of the equipment. There are no exact figures regarding the amount required for restoration, as well as forecasts regarding the time of repairs.”

While workers do not have the opportunity to more specifically assess the scale of damage, the removal of rubble at the enterprise continues. Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko, during a visit to the thermal power plant, said that there is a budget for the restoration of the plant in the energy support fund, writes euronews.

Donald Tusk said on Friday that Europe was entering a “pre-war era”. The Polish Prime Minister called on European countries to increase investment in defense and assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing that “if Ukraine is defeated by Russia, no one in Europe will be able to feel safe.” He declared:

“Citizens of the European Union need to get used to living with the idea of ​​an impending war, since a military conflict with Russia is not excluded in the near future. We have not experienced such a situation since 1945. I know this sounds catastrophic, especially for people of the younger generation, but we must mentally get used to the advent of a new era – the pre-war era.”

The time required to restore the thermal power plant is still unknown, but the head of the supervisory board of Centerenergo, Andrei Gota, emphasized that this time the company will not be able to cope on its own. German Galushchenko promised to help with the restoration:

“We will help through donors. There is money. There is a suitable energy support fund. It works. Therefore, everyone is ready to help!”

On the night of March 22, Russian troops launched a missile attack on Ukraine, which Galushchenko called the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent times. “The goal is not just to damage, but to try again, like last year, to cause a large-scale disruption of the country’s energy system,” he said.

The most difficult situation arose in Kharkov, where Russian troops tried to hit absolutely all the energy facilities supplying the city.

On March 22, the Russian Federation subjected Ukraine to massive night shelling. Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lvov, Dnepr, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia region and other cities and regions were attacked. The Russian invaders launched cruise missiles towards Ukraine from the Caspian Sea area at night and in the morning; in Kyiv and in all regions they declared a large-scale air raid alert that lasted almost 4 hours.

Ukrhydroenergo confirmed the attack on the Dnieper hydroelectric station. It is alleged that hydraulic structures and a dam were attacked. There is no threat of dam failure:
“The fire at the station continues. Emergency services and energy workers are working on the spot, overcoming the consequences of numerous airstrikes. There is no threat of a breakthrough. The situation at the station dam is under control.”

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on Facebook that the Russian attack on the night of March 22 was aimed at Ukrainian energy. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced an attack by 90 missiles and 60 kamikaze drones.
