USA, Ukraine, NATO – statement made


The United States made a statement on Ukraine’s accession to NATO – the summit in Washington will pave the way to the alliance.

Celeste Wallander, US Deputy Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, said at the Kiev Security Forum that important steps will be taken at the North Atlantic Alliance summit on Ukraine’s path to NATO, quotes its publication “Ukrinform”:

“Although it is too early to tell, you should know that during the Washington summit steps will be taken that will form a reliable bridge to Ukraine’s future membership in NATO.”

The Deputy Minister of Defense noted that Ukraine does not retreat in the face of Russian aggression, so “the United States, our allies and partners in the world will not retreat either”:

“Ukraine has chosen to be a member of the transatlantic community. The Ukrainian people not only share our values ​​and commitment to democracy, freedom and the rule of law, but they courageously defend these values ​​as Russia attempts to destroy the Ukrainian state and way of life.”

Wallander stressed that the United States, along with allies and partners around the world, “remains determined to provide Ukraine with the resources it needs to resist Kremlin aggression”:

“Our investment in Ukraine’s defense is also an investment in our common security: transatlantic and global. That is why Ukraine’s strategic success is very important in various dimensions: economic, reconstruction, refugee return, steps towards gaining membership in EUdefense and security, justice and accountability.”

The NATO summit will take place in Washington on July 9-11. The capital of Ukraine hosted the 16th annual Kiev Security Forum on March 21-22, organized to mobilize transatlantic support for Ukraine, under the slogan “Ukraine says to the world: we will win together!”
