Why the government fears the email scandal will cost it the European elections

The government took it easy on itself to deal with the scandal, which began after MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou sent thousands of emails to Greek emigrants and expatriates. But yesterday’s visit by the Personal Data Protection Office team to the Digitalization Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs showed that this is not the case.

In fact, the government is concerned that in a few months the results of parallel investigations, data protection authorities and the judiciary will begin to leak, while at the same time claims against the Greek state by expatriates will continue, demanding compensation of 20,000 euros each.

In short, a “bad” atmosphere will be created for the ruling party during the European elections. And all this will cost her votes. Because European elections are the only way for people to express their dissatisfaction with the government from a safe distance.
