Galloping inflation has brought Greek households to their knees. Against this backdrop, the Prime Minister suspends the issuance of Easter benefits and… advertises a “wage increase.”
“It is already clear that there will be no Easter bonus,” Mitsotakis clarified in an interview with Sky, again focusing on the proposal for a wage increase of 950 euros in… 2027.
“I will insist on this because we have set a goal of achieving an average salary of 1,500 euros and a minimum salary of 950 euros by 2027. Businesses should pay workers more,” he said.
Speaking about “sharp interference in the very functioning of the market,” he noted that it is necessary that “price increases that benefit companies and supermarkets are not hidden by a complex system (it was more transparency in pricing)”.
“Prices have increased because cost factors have increased. There is no reason to interfere with the market if rates are falling,” the Prime Minister noted. He added that: “Whoever breaks the law will receive a fine.”
Stating that The increase in the minimum wage will last for three yearshe repeated several times that “there will be no Easter benefits,” since “we currently have a difficult budget situation to implement this measure to support the population.”
According to him, if anything is given to vulnerable groups, it will be done at the end of the year.
