Explosion at a gas station in Piraeus, reality TV actress and Pontic business

The explosion at a gas station belonging to a bandit nicknamed “Zambon”, one of the shadow leaders of the capital’s mafia, shot point-blank by hired killers in the Neos Kosmos area, is closely intertwined with the high-profile case of eliminating a large organized crime group from Aspropyrgos, which counterfeited fuel in thousands of tons and sold it at gas stations.

Among 30 arrested turned out to be a 27-year-old former star of the reality show “My Style Rocks”. The police handcuffed a beauty who had recently been working at a gas station selling counterfeit fuel.

In addition to the young woman, security officials also arrested a 65-year-old man nicknamed “The Magician.” This is because he was an expert in using chemical solvents to adulterate fuel.

While indictments were being drawn up against the counterfeiters, an unknown person established explosive device on the concrete fence of an open parking lot at a gas station on Omiridis Skylitsis and Pythagoras streets in Piraeus, and disappeared.

The gas station was open and the driver of the car was just filling up the tank when at exactly 3:20 am shock wave from a bomb explosion smashed the rear windshield and briefly lifted his car into the air.

Experts estimated its strength at 3 kilograms of TNT; it broke windows in neighboring apartment buildings, and cars parked in the parking lot, hit by debris, were riddled with holes.

After a series of murders of the four “godfathers” of the Athens mafia – Georgios Mitsos in Glika Nera, Yiannis Skaftouros in Skourta Boeotia, Vasilis Rumpetis in Korydallos and Vangelis Zambunis (Zambona) in Neos Kosmos – who were “sitting” on the fuel topic, a redistribution of spheres of influence began between potential “godfathers” of the Greek mafia, who, with the help of explosions, establish control over “orphaned” gas stations.

Murder of V. Zambunis: Who ordered his execution?

Law enforcement agencies, after catching up from the very top, “dig the ground” in search of the mastermind(s) of the latest explosion and cannot find a prisoner with a very serious criminal past, who smokes incessantly in his cell, but over the years has managed to protect himself from drugs that “increase” his strength, he loses self-control and makes mistakes.

“Only he is capable of such a risk associated with human casualties,” says the NewsBreak journalist Vassilis Chitos…” We are talking about a well-known criminal baron who has large financial capital, and now he is drawn like a magnet to “black” gold, since the income from this business exceeds the profit from the drug trade.

Like “Uncle Joe”
Over the past months and hours, the economic police have been collecting facts and documents to liquidate an organized crime group that imported and produced chemical products for adulterating fuel, traded in adulterated fuel, and also illegally imported ethyl alcohol from Bulgaria for adulterating drinks. The same topic was dealt with by the organized crime group of the murdered Aspropirgose, Yiannis Skaftouros, nicknamed “Uncle Joe.”

Police dismantled a large organized crime group involved in counterfeiting fuel and alcohol

At the moment, twenty members of the criminal organization have been arrested, including its head, 62-year-old P.E. from Giannitsa to Pella.

The investigation is shocked by how seriously expatriates from the former Soviet Union have developed the topic of adulterated and smuggled fuel, which a few years ago was limited to single trucks with smuggled cigarettes.

Among the accused are thirteen Greeks and seven foreigners, ten more people are wanted, of whom seven are Greeks and three foreigners. Were identified six gas stations, where counterfeit and smuggled fuel was sold, where more than 1,200,000 euros were “saved” from paying taxes and tariffs in February 2024 alone. And this, apparently, is just the tip of the iceberg…

According to the indictment, the 62-year-old leader of the organized crime group has formed three independent groups with the appropriate infrastructure and technical equipment since November 2023. To do this, he used, as his main place of business, a truck parking lot on Megaridos Street in Aspropyrgos (Attica), where ethyl alcohol, chemical solvents and adulterated fuel ended up.

Three intermediate points were used for the work: two warehouses in western Attica, where chemical solvents were first received from Bulgaria, then they ended up at the above-mentioned parking lot, where fuel of unknown origin was mixed with chemicals to increase its octane number.

In the third parking lot, there was the headquarters of a company that legally supplied all the necessary chemical materials for the illegal production of chemical solvents suitable for adulterating fuel, which then ended up in the same parking lot, and from there, in liquid fuel tanks, to gas stations.

Two independent subgroups were intended to send chemical solvents to gas stations for the purpose of adulterating fuel, and a third subgroup was intended to transport illegal ethyl alcohol to distilleries through which it entered the domestic market for consumption.

Chemical reagents were imported into Greece with the help of Bulgarian suppliers, who undertook to place them in one-ton pallet tanks. Each of these members received money, which was calculated in proportion to the number of liters of cargo transported at a time.

The second subgroup owned a storefront company that was engaged in the production of disinfectants and the sale of chemical products in the town of Jeroma, in Thebes.

The plant supplied all the necessary raw materials for the operation of an illegal laboratory for the production of chemical solvents suitable for adulterating fuel. Orders for raw materials for the production of chemical reagents were placed in agreement with each other, depending on needs, since P.E. kept a list of clients from gas stations.

His immediate assistant was a Bulgarian named “Luka” who lived in Delezi but traveled to the plant daily to ensure procedures were followed on behalf of the 62-year-old. From there, trucks with one-ton pallets carried the illegal cargo to the aforementioned parking lot on Megaridos Street in Aspropyrgos in Attica. There it was loaded into tanker trucks, which were poured into fuel tanks at gas stations.

30 tons per day

It is significant that on 5/3/2024 alone, thirty tons of chemicals were produced at the illegal chemical plant in Boeotia. The operation included searches at six gas stations, a truck stop, seven homes, two warehouses, a disinfectant and industrial chemicals wholesaler, a beverage wholesaler and two distilleries. During the searches, 85,265 liters of chemical substances, 12,101 liters of unleaded gasoline, 5,762 liters of ethyl alcohol and 746 liters of other alcohol-containing liquids were discovered. 12 cars were also seized, six of which were declared stolen/lost, and confiscated 78,955,000 euros.
