One million Greek taxpayers could avoid filing returns this year

Automatic filing of tax returns will affect approximately one million Greek citizens – they will only need to check the data already filled out or not participate in the process at all.

Who does not need to fill out a tax return?

Starting this year, filing your taxes will become much easier. For approximately one million taxpayers, submitting a basic E1 form that has already been automatically completed will be just a click away. This opportunity will be available to everyone whose family and property status has not changed in 2023; they received income exclusively from pensions and salaries.

As the head of ΑΑΔΕ Giorgos Pitsilis explained, they will not need to fill out a tax return: all they need to do is check the correctness of the pre-filled amounts – salaries, pensions, income, loans, real estate and cars, among others.

Three options

Taxpayers will even be able to avoid filing a tax return altogether. They are given the opportunity to choose one of the following options:

  1. Contact an accountant, similar to previous years, to check that all data is filled out correctly and the declaration is completed.
  2. Check the automatically completed declaration yourself and click the “send” button if you agree with the entered data – a notification (εκκαθαριστικό) will be issued immediately.
  3. Do not participate in filing the declaration – automatic filing will occur on June 30. In this case, you don’t even need to log into the ΑΑΔΕ platform, no action is required and the εκκαθαριστικό will be issued automatically.

It remains only to remind Greek taxpayers that writes CNN Greece that the declaration filing platform will open at the end of March.
