A contract has been signed for the restoration and use of the buildings of the former royal estate in Tatoya


The contract for the development and tender for the restoration of the catering and hospitality premises and buildings at the former royal estate in Tatoya was signed on 27 February 2024 by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, and the authorized advisor and head of the strategic contract department of TAIPED, Panagiotis Stamboulides.

The Agreement of Cooperation was signed in the presence of TAIPED CEO Dimitris Politis and Managing Director and Executive Member of the Superfund (EESYP) Board Grigoris D. Dimitriadis.

The signing of the contract marks the beginning of the second stage of development of the Tatoi estate with the restoration and use of buildings, which, according to the decision of the Ministry of Culture after the unanimous opinion of the Central Council of New Monuments, are intended for the hotel business, catering and recreation, with an initial budget of 25 million euros.

The project to restore, promote and operate the former royal estate in Tatoya is one of the government’s signature projects. Since 2019, the Ministry of Culture has already been implementing a comprehensive and multi-level project for the restoration of monument buildings, which are planned to house museum, cultural and public utility infrastructure. The goal is for Tatoi Estate to become an important destination for Attica nationally and internationally, thanks to its environmentally friendly infrastructure and sustainable activities.

In absolute harmony with the natural environment and the identity of the site, the historic core of the Tatoi estate of 1600 acres and a crop area of ​​approximately 1200 acres is to be restored and used for a variety of cultural purposes. Among other things, it is planned to create restaurants (canteens) and recreation areas, hospitality facilities, as well as moderate agricultural production activities, such as the revival of viticulture and olive groves. The planned events are expected to significantly benefit the national economy and the capital’s tourism product as they are estimated to attract over 1 million visitors annually.
