The film crew of the ERT show “Wild Greece” (“Άγρια Ελλάδα”) was filming in Karpathos when the cameraman caught… someone’s body.
As it became known, a boat from the protected area management unit, accompanied by the coast guard, delivered the ERT film crew to the islet of Saria (near Karpathos). However, as soon as the boat landed on the beach, ERT television workers saw a corpse in an advanced stage of decomposition washed ashore.
As biologist and show host Ilias Strakhinis told ERT3, documents filled out in Arabic were found in the pockets of the man’s body. Authorities are investigating the incident. According to ERT, he is an illegal immigrant who probably drowned while being transported to Greece.
The show “Wild Greece” is a journey of two young people through unexplored corners of the country. They follow the trails of Greece’s national parks to meet and experience the wild fauna and flora of the areas they explore. They also strive to raise public awareness about the disappearance of rare species.
