New details of the murder of a 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player in Germany

A 15-year-old schoolboy of Turkish origin, V. Mert, deliberately sought conflict and was the first to attack Ukrainian athletes, killing Vladimir Ermakov and sending Artem Kozachenko to intensive care.

New details have emerged about the murder of a 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player in Germany by a German schoolboy of Turkish origin.

“This is an incomprehensible act, completely senseless. The attacker deliberately sought conflict with the much older, taller and more athletic Ukrainian, and then immediately and mercilessly used a knife. He clearly didn’t care that he might kill someone. During his arrest, he showed no signs of remorse. Apparently he was numb from numerous criminal offenses and clashes with the police,” — the local police told BILD.

The Turk stabbed not only two Ukrainians, one of whom died, but also a 13-year-old girl from Lebanon and a 14-year-old schoolboy from Syria. At first the media wrote that the children were with Ukrainian basketball players, but Bild writes that they decided to come to their aidwhen they saw that the teenager had stabbed the guys.

“They had injuries to their arms and hands, and not deep stab wounds to the stomach and chest, like the young men from Ukraine. They also received serious injuries, but, fortunately, not life-threatening. One was already able to leave the hospital.”the police said.

It is known that the detained teenager committed many other crimes and was registered with the police.

He showed no remorse during his arrest. “He didn’t care that someone would die. In addition to Mert V., law enforcement officers also arrested a 14-year-old teenager of Greek origin in the city of Herne. He was tracked down on CCTV cameras. According to investigators, he also participated in the attack, but did not inflict stab wounds. It is known that he was released on bail to his guardians because his age is below the age of responsibility under German law.

Vladimir Ermakov previously played for the Ukrainian youth team. Because of the war, he left for Germany, after which he began playing for the local club Art Giants Dusseldorf. On the morning of February 12 about his death reported Ukrainian Basketball Federation. The organization’s statement said that Ermakov and Kozachenko were attacked in Dusseldorf because they were Ukrainians.

Speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko reportedthat the department has taken special control of the murder investigation. Nikolenko’s statement did not mention the motives for the attack.
