Trump’s rival asks US intelligence agencies for protection

The headquarters of Nikki Haley, Donald Trump’s “rival,” sent a request to the US Secret Service regarding her protection.

How writes Deutsche Welle, the request comes amid increasing threats against Haley, Trump’s latest challenger for the Republican presidential nomination in the upcoming election. She confirmed the fact of receiving threats on February 5 in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. The former governor of South Carolina said: “We had a lot of problems.” And she assured that this would not stop her from “doing what is necessary.”

A request for Haley’s protection has been sent to federal authorities. Her campaign is conferring on how tighter security measures could affect the campaign schedule. The team has not yet provided the publication with additional information about the threats that 52-year-old Haley received.

She is Trump’s only Republican challenger after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race in favor of Trump. Haley will remain on the campaign trail at least until Super Tuesday on March 5, when primaries will be held in 16 of the 50 states.

She congratulated Trump on his victory in New Hampshire, but did not fail to note that if he is elected to a new presidential term, only chaos awaits the country, and emphasized: “The race is far from over, there are still dozens of states ahead.”

Speaking to supporters after the primaries, 77-year-old Donald Trump, in turn, spoke harshly of his rival, calling her an “imposter” who wants to take credit for the victory. And he dedicated several emotional posts to Haley on his social network Truth Social, calling him “inadequate.”

Formally, the Republican candidate will be nominated at the party convention in July, and elections are scheduled for November 5, DW recalls. It is expected that Donald Trump and the current head of the White House, Joe Biden, who announced his nomination, will again compete in them.
