Explosions and fire in Peristeri, neighbors talk about "strange" behavior of one of the residents

According to eyewitnesses, “windows in several neighboring houses were broken” after explosions early this morning in Peristeri.

Early on Thursday morning, the Peristeri area looked as if it had been heavily bombed. A resident of the apartment engulfed in fire was taken to the Central District with burns and breathing problems.

The fire broke out after a series of explosions. Inside the house, firefighters found at least ten small gasoline cans and four large gas cylinders. The latter were “opened” and it is difficult to imagine what would have happened if they had exploded. As the son of the couple living above the apartment said, “in this case the consequences would have been different, perhaps even catastrophic.”

According to the fire department, three vehicles with nine firefighters were at the scene. As a result explosions and fire damaged house and two cars parked next to it. The shock wave shattered windows in several neighboring buildings. Neighbors reported that the man, about 65 years old, had been acting “quite strangely” recently.
