The French submarine FLOREAL, which sank in 1918 during the First World War in the Thermaic Gulf, was discovered by a team of underwater explorers Kostas Toktaridis at a depth of 98 meters in international territorial waters.
“In the area of the wreck there were very strong undercurrents and poor visibility, typical for this area. The submarine rested on the muddy bottom of Thermaikos with a slight tilt to the right and has a slight tilt forward. Its periscopes are lowered. The depth and rudder are in position 0. 65 visible -mm gun mount and torpedo tubes. One of the hatches remains half-open today,” a well-known researcher told APE-MPE.
It is worth noting that this is the sixth sunken submarine that the team has discovered and identified. FLOREAL is considered a rare steam submarine of distinctive shipbuilding and design.
