The Republican National Committee will consider a proposal next week. immediate announcement of Donald Trump as a presidential candidatewhile the only remaining contender, former President Nikki Haley, is under pressure to drop out of the race.
David Bossie, a Trump ally on the National Committee, circulated the text to other members, which could come up for a vote next week when the party body meets in Las Vegas.
The tycoon and his allies began pressure campaign against former US ambassador to the UNbut she’s not giving up on her bid to win the party’s nomination.
The possible passage of such a resolution by the RNC would theoretically increase pressure on Nikki Haley to drop out of her race. However, her campaign appeared to have paid no attention to the draft resolution circulated by Mr Bossie.
“Who cares what the RNC says? Let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee or running mate, not a club of people with power and influence in Washington,” her group said in a statement.
Trump would like to see Ms. Haley drop out of the race before their next clash in her home state of South Carolina on Feb. 24.
