Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Saturday that “Ukraine is not an independent and sovereign country”A “is under the complete control and influence of the United States”confirming that Bratislava does not intend to send her weapons.

Fico is expected to meet his Ukrainian counterpart Dennis Shmygal on Wednesday in a city on the border between the two countries: “I will tell him that I am against Ukraine’s admission to NATO and will use my veto. This will cause a third world war, and nothing more.”said the Slovak Prime Minister in an interview with public television RTVS.
He added that at the meeting with Mr. Shmygal he intends to confirm that Kyiv “will not receive weapons from the Slovak army and the state.”
He also accused Ukraine of being one of the most corrupt countries in the world: “Lord knows how much of the help she receives disappears.”– he said.
In his opinion, the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has been going on for two years, cannot be resolved militarily, and Kyiv will have to cede part of Ukrainian territory: “Some kind of compromise must be reached, which will be very painful for both sides”he explained.

According to a report published in 2023 by Bratislava think tank GlobSec, less than half of Slovaks (40%) hold Russia responsible for the war in Ukraine.
