New attack on Houthi targets in Yemen (video)

On the night of Saturday, January 13, the United States launched new strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, media reports confirmed by the US Department of Defense.

Explosions were heard in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and the city of Hodeidah. CNN reports, citing a source, that the US carried out a unilateral strike, “on a much smaller scale than the previous night.” The Pentagon identified the Houthi radar as its target.

The strike was carried out by Tomahawk cruise missiles, and the current attack is a continuation of strikes carried out on January 12 and is intended to “reduce the Houthis’ ability to attack maritime vessels,” noted to the US Department of Defense.

On the night of January 12, the USA and Great Britain, with the support of the Netherlands, Canada, Australia and Bahrain, dealt massive blows on Houthi targets in Yemen. The US Department of Defense named their targets as radar installations, warehouses and sites for launching drones and missiles, and Houthi command centers.

US President Joe Biden has warned that he could order more strikes if the Houthis do not stop attacks on ships in the Red Sea. He told reporters that the Houthis, who control most of Yemen, are, in his opinion, terrorists. “I think so,” Biden said when asked if he was willing to call them a terrorist group.

The White House has confirmed that it is exploring the possibility of re-listing the Houthis on the US State Department’s list of “foreign terrorist organizations”. However, a decision on this matter has not yet been made, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said on CNN.

According to the American leader, quotes DW, “it doesn’t matter” whether the Houthi administration recognizes it as a terrorist organization or not, since the US and other countries intend to respond to their attacks in the Red Sea anyway.
