New Minister for Citizen Protection (Police) Michael Chrysochoides has noted the disappointing reduction in the number of police officers patrolling the DIA team. The new minister is very dissatisfied, since over the past 2 years there has been a systematic weakening of the combat police services.

Through the MEGA TV channel, the new leadership of the ministry leaked information that the previous police leadership had significantly weakened the motorcycle squads of the patrol police ΔΙ.ΑΣ. According to this document, in 2019, 2,500 ΔΙ.ΑΣ employees worked in the capital region, and now there are only 500 people left in the whole of Attica. This is due to the fact that they are either seconded, transferred to another service, or expelled from the ranks of the police. The numbers are indicative: five ΔΙ.ΑΣ groups for 22 municipalities in North-East Attica.
According to documented evidence, these ΔΙ.ΑΣ commands respond:
- Agia Paraskevi: Agia Paraskevi, Peania, Pallini and Papagu – Holargos.
- Nea Ionia, Neo Heraklion, Metamorfosi and Nea Philadelphia.
- Kifissia, Ekali and Nea Eritrea.
- One patrol car ΑΜΕΣΗ ΔΡΑΣΗ (rapid response) Dionysos, Oropos and Avlona.
In addition, the new Minister for Citizen Protection is looking for a solution to the problem through regional security departments (criminal investigation), since 90% of them remain closed at night due to lack of staff.
Two-man police teams (ΔΙ.ΑΣ) were created in March 2010 to prevent, control and suppress violent and criminal activities such as murder, robbery, etc. They are composed of motorcyclists from the Special Guard unit. The political initiative for the creation of ΔΙ.ΑΣ belonged to the then minister Michalis Chrysochoidis. The initiator of the creation of the ΔΙ.ΑΣ team was the then deputy chief ΕΛ.ΑΣ., Lieutenant General Yiannis Rahovitsas.
Together with then-Major General Quick Balakos and Brigadier General George Stavrakas, they set about creating a team. They entrusted the command of it to the then Brigadier General Stavrakas. Previously, they also created the DELTA (Rapid Action Force) group.
The ΔΙ.ΑΣ group is equipped with modern, powerful motorcycles, with which they patrol 75 municipalities of Attica, including the center of Athens and Piraeus, as well as 21 districts of Thessaloniki.
The 2,448 police officers in the teams (mostly officers) have undergone specialized training, which is repeated at regular intervals to improve their readiness and effectiveness.
