In the new year 2024, an unprecedented number of conflicts may break out, which now, due to the situation in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, remain “unnoticed.”
Referring to military analysts, the American television channel NBC News reports this:
“This month, the International Rescue Committee published a list of emergencies for 2024, documenting the twenty countries at greatest risk of deteriorating security. These countries account for about 10% of the world’s population, about 70% of displaced people, and about 86% of global humanitarian needs.”
Among the main threats, the authors of the material note:
- the threat of escalating civil wars in Sudan and Myanmar;
- the outbreak of armed conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo;
- general instability and the fight against Islamist groups in the Sahel region (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal);
- threats of armed conflicts in Haiti, Guatemala, Ethiopia, as well as between China and Taiwan.
Earlier, Lloyd Austin, head of the Pentagon, said notes BB.LV, what attacks Yemen’s Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea increase the risk of a full-scale war in the Middle East region.
