A policeman who was seriously injured by a rocket during the Renti riots has emerged from an induced coma.

The main public hospital in Nicaea has issued a new medical report for a 31-year-old policeman who was seriously injured in recent incidents following the volleyball match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in Renti.

The policeman has emerged from an induced coma as doctors need to assess his neurological condition, but he remains hospitalized in intensive care in a critical condition after suffering serious injuries during the Renty riots when he was hit in the leg by a naval flare.

“As notified by the attending physicians, the patient remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit, intubated, supported by mechanical ventilation and continuous extrarenal dialysis. Treatment with sedatives was discontinued to assess his neurological status in the coming days,” the medical bulletin said.

According to available data, conclusions about the police officer’s state of health can be made in 2-3 days, and doctors will be able to determine the extent of existing injuries.

At the same time, the Greek police are continuing their investigation to identify the instructor or instructors of the serious incidents that occurred in Renti after the volleyball match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos on the night of Thursday, December 7, 2023.

An 18-year-old who was jailed for his role in the riots has asked to return to the case as a protected witness.
