According to police, the chase began at approximately 3:30 a.m. after a vehicle was stolen in the Nicaea area. When police arrived at the scene, they found two suspicious vehicles. One of them stopped, and the second picked up speed, and the driver tried to escape.
After 23 minutes of pursuit, at the Aspropyrgos level, the driver of the suspicious car made a dangerous maneuver, forcing the pursuing police car to brake and crash into the motorcycle of the ΔΙ.ΑΣ team. One of the two police officers on the motorcycle was seriously injured and was taken to Triasio Hospital, where he unfortunately died a short time later.
The other driver of the DIAS motorcycle, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was first taken to the same hospital and then transferred to the 401 Military Hospital.
Police were able to arrest the man traveling in the second suspect vehicle, and a section of the Athens-Corinthos national road remained closed for some time due to the accident.
