Ukraine’s membership will cost the European Union between 130 and 190 billion euros. This is stated in a study by the Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft (IW), according to which up to 17% of the bloc’s total budget will go to Ukraine in this case.

According to the report, Ukraine’s accession to the European Union will entail “a number of consequences for the bloc’s economy.” Researchers believe that after joining EU Ukraine will begin to “apply for the allocation of large funds from the EU budget.”

“According to rough estimates, the financial impact of full membership of Ukraine on the current multi-year financial plan for 2021-2027 will be from 130 to 190 billion euros,” the report says.

According to calculations, 70-90 billion euros of this amount will be spent on agricultural subsidies, another 50-90 billion – on improving the country’s well-being, which is included in the regional policy of the European Union.

At the same time, the institute estimates the population of Ukraine today at 31 million people (43.8 million before the start of the war), and the area of ​​agricultural land at 27.9 million hectares (32.9 million before 02/24/2022).
